We are backing up to a new VXA-1 tape drive and 294u2b encountered no difficulties, others appear to have worse luck with this set-up.

With the PCI card listed above connected to only one drive with no terminator capability and an active terminator on the last connector of that cable how does the "TERM PWR" jumper on the drive figure into this?
Both drives, source and destination, are UW on the U2B internally. I would look at it this way: Under OS X I get kernel panic when it starts writing.

Please check back for details. It appears that there are serious problems 2940ub2 or reading to tape drives connected to the OEM U2B". This is pointing more and more to a Dantz tape driver issue than an issue with the hardware. I can't imagine that Retrospect would have a problem with backup sources on hard drives attached to this card.

I have definite thoughts about getting a VXA firewire tape drive. To start the conversation again, simply ask a new question. Anyway, as far as I can tell, there are no problems with the U2B if the card is not used to communicate with a back-up device.
